Pilot Study on the Deep Treatment of Sulfuric-Acid–Titanium-Dioxide Wastewater Using an Ultrafiltration/Reverse Osmosis Process

The production of titanium dioxide via the sulfuric acid process generates large amounts acidic wastewater. Investigating possibility reusing this wastewater after deep treatment can reduce pollutant discharge and conserve water resources. In a pilot study, dual-membrane method ultrafiltration (UF) reverse osmosis (RO) was employed to perform treatments sulfuric-acid–titanium-dioxide findings showed that multimedia precision filters reduced turbidity from an external drainage as low 0.18 NTU, with removal rate approximately 50%, reaching maximum 68%. When UF effluent had membrane flux 70–100 L/m2 h 85–90%, SDI15 <5.0 <1.0, meeting RO supply requirements. Additionally, achieved TDS >95%, CODCr 85%, desalination >98.5%. At smooth operation system recovery highest obtained 64%. produced adhered reuse standards. UF/RO its realize comprehensive use
